The red carpet is the best place to track the beauty evolutions of our favorite celebrities — which, BTW, just keep getting better over the years. And since 1999, the Teen Choice Awards has been the show at which stars show off their colorful, experimental sides when it comes to hair and makeup, so we always make sure to tune in.
Creative braids, out-there eyeliner, and pastel streaks are just a few of the things we've come to expect, and the 2016 red carpet isn't letting us down. Best of all, the looks we love most strike just the right balance between playful and sophisticated. So you can wear them to work, a wedding, or a festival. We're planning on working our way through all of them by the time summer ends.
Ahead, check out the coolest hair and makeup ideas from tonight's aquamarine carpet.

Victoria Justice
At first glance, the host of the show seemed to be rocking a classic milkmaid braid. Cute. But then we looked closer and found a hint of reddish-violet color weaved throughout the band, and damn, that tiny detail made things so much cooler.

Sarah Hyland
Hyland added a dash of cobalt liner along her lower lash line to complement her bold dress. Take note, ya'll: This is how you match your makeup to your outfit.

Lucy Hale
Hale is a perfect example of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." Girl, don't ever stray from this rumpled lob/chocolate eyeliner combo.

Kat Graham
Graham proves that micro-bangs are always cool. When it comes to styling, focus on the big picture — in this case, the half-up bouffant — and let the shorter pieces fall as they may.

Ashley Benson
Sometimes the smallest tweak can make a ho-hum hairstyle feel really fresh. See: Benson's behind-the-ear-tuck. It's clean, sharp, and way more modern.

Shay Mitchell
Smokeshow alert! Mitchell's winged-out shadow, chiseled cheekbones, and silky top knot make for the sexiest going-out look.

Laverne Cox
Cox plays a mad scientist in the reprisal of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, and she's keeping it mad cool on the red carpet with classic, pulled-back hair and a nude makeup theme.
