Like most things nowadays, sleeves aren't what they used to be. What was once just a piece of cylindrical fabric covering your arm is now a palette for designers to wreak havoc. Now, sleeves are on our radar, even in the dead of summer.

Enter the long-sleeved graphic tee. It's super-casual, very cool, and complements all the skirts, shorts, and pants in your closet (and it looks even better under a slip dress). If you want an effortless outfit that still looks fly, you're in for a treat. Click through to shop 12 of our picks ahead, and get ready to sleeve the rest behind.

The long, treacherous path to adulthood is often paved with hilarity — just ask Jessi Klein, executive producer of Inside Amy Schumer, Transparent writer, former SNL staffer, and now, breakout author. Her debut essay collection, You’ll Grow Out of It, chronicles Jessi’s beautifully awkward journey from perpetual tomboy (or as she would say, “tom man”) to Hollywood power player. Consider this required reading for anyone who harbors secret nostalgia for her Pippi Longstocking phase. Above all, Jessi inspires us to keep tearing down rigid definitions of “femininity” in pursuit of our own, utterly unique identities, scrappy ‘90s overalls included.

Jessi joins us on July 12 at 6:50 p.m. EST for a live interview with Vanessa Bayer, of SNL and Trainwreck fame. Tune into our Facebook Live feed or RIOT channel to hear the comedic voice that gave Amy Schumer and Ira Glass a serious case of the giggles dish on growing up and taking charge.

What Every Woman Needs To Read About Fox News’ Sexual Harassment Suit

$
0
0

Last week, former Fox anchor Gretchen Carlson filed suit against the network’s CEO, Roger Ailes, claiming he sexually harassed her and ultimately terminated her contract because she denied his advances.

"Although this was a difficult step to take, I had to stand up for myself and speak out for all women and the next generation of women in the workplace,” Carlson wrote in a statement. The suit alleges she put up with years of abuse and harassment, including Ailes suggesting they have a sexual relationship, commenting on her body, and insisting she learn to “get along with the boys” when she complained to him about the sexist culture at the network.

It’s not very surprising that Fox — which is not named in the suit — has since launched a PR campaign rabidly defending the embattled Ailes and calling into question Carlson’s motives for the suit. Since her announcement, more than a half-dozen women have spoken out to share their own stories of sexual harassment at the hands of Ailes, with some stories dating back to the 1960s. Ailes has vigorously denied all these allegations and this weekend released a statement via his lawyers, arguing that since some of these accusations are as much as 50 years old, they are no longer valid.

Female Fox anchors have also spoken out in support of Ailes. Yesterday, Refinery29 spoke with current Fox & Friends co-host Ainsley Earhardt, who was quick to paint Fox News as one big happy family, with Ailes playing the father figure and mentor, while dismissing all the negative allegations against her boss.

“I read the accusations, and to me, I just wonder why are they coming out now?” she says. “If you had such a strong reaction to the experience, why did you wait so long to come forward?”

It’s easy to list a dozen or more reasons why a woman might not come forward and speak up when she’s sexually harassed by her boss. And when the man who is responsible for your livelihood is one of the most powerful executives in the world, it becomes even more difficult. What does Carlson have to win in this situation? She’s putting her career on the line. And as with most sexual-harassment cases, it comes down to he-said/she-said. Ailes is rich, successful, and has the support of top lawyers and a huge network behind him. If the case goes to trial, Carlson will likely see her entire personal life ripped open for the world to see. She’s already being judged in the court of public opinion — and by former coworkers.

Last month, Carlson’s colleague Megyn Kelly joined Sheryl Sandberg’s new Lean In campaign, Together Women Can, which aims to encourage women to speak up for each other. Kelly has been silent since the charges came out against Ailes, defending neither Carlson nor her boss. Surely, this is one of those times that Sandberg was talking about — when women should defend their female colleagues and not ignore these upsetting allegations. Kelly has proven her ability to hold her own against strong men — her response to Donald Trump’s rude comments has become almost legendary — and yet she hasn’t said anything about the allegations against the man who’s responsible for her paycheck.

Earhardt is only speaking to her experience at Fox — and she’s lucky it’s been a good work environment for her. She wasn’t there to see the private interactions between Ailes and Carlson that are alleged in the suit, or to see Ailes interact with any of the women who have since come forward with their own accusations. So how can she be so quick to shut it down? It seems as a journalist, she should search for all sides of the story — and remain silent until she’s sure of all the facts. Maybe she isn’t so different from many women out there who feel pressured into toeing the company line in order to enjoy a little job security? That could certainly explain an unwillingness to speak out.

How Yelp Is Helping Feed Our Pokémon Go Appetites

Hungry for food with a side of Pidgey and Zubat? Yelp's newest feature has you covered.

On Friday, the company released a Pokémon Go filter that allows users to search for establishments near PokéStops. Finally, eating and running errands no longer have to get in the way of our Pokémon training.

Restaurants are all about the Pokémon Go craze, too. Instead of advertising specials, a social-media shoutout that a Pokémon is on their premises is a surefire way to get customers in the door, Eater reports.

The filter is available on iOS and Android Yelp apps, and it's simple to use. Just swipe across the filter options below the search window and select "PokéStops Nearby." Yelp also is asking users to crowdsource new spots, which thousands reportedly did within the first day.

"To identify a business that’s in the vicinity of a PokéStop, check-in to that location on Yelp and answer a quick question to let fellow Yelpers and trainers know that this is the place they want to be," associate product manager Will Cole explained on the company's blog.

Deciding on a brunch spot just became a n- brainer, and a PokéStop bar crawl would be a snap to map. This newest twist offers more evidence that Pokémon Go just might be life-changing game we never knew we needed.

Rescue Dogs Bring A New Point Of View To Wedding Video

We've seen brides and grooms request charitable donations for their weddings. We've seen beloved pet dogs walk down the aisle for their owners' big day. And we've even seen a dog become the wedding videographer. Somehow, recently married couple Shahr Nouraini and Peter Rushton took this concept to new heartwarming, doggie-loving heights.

The story, which comes to us from the Huffington Post, is this: Nouraini and Rushton decided that for their destination wedding in Riviera Maya, Mexico, they wanted guests to buy gifts for a local dog shelter, Playa Animal Rescue (PAR). Then, their photographer, Sol Tamargo, worked with the groom to surprise Nouraini with three GoPro-equipped canine videographers from PAR on the wedding day. Zac, Daphne, and Daisy, along with three volunteer handlers, arrived at the venue while Nouraini was getting ready.

"Well, I was in tears. I thought it was the absolute best surprise ever!” Nouraini says in a blog post on Tamargo's photography site. “Luckily, Peter and Sol surprised me with the dogs while the makeup artists were still there, otherwise I probably would have looked a mess! Our guests absolutely loved the dogs, and a few have even said they would like to integrate something similar into their own weddings.”

The results, as you can see for yourself, are adorable; though we have to wonder if any canine mischief (inappropriate sniffing, scrounging for scraps) was edited out. It was such a hit that Tamargo told HuffPo she's making it a regular service for weddings, with all profits going back to PAR. There's also a huge happy ending to this story: Daphne and Daisy have since been adopted, while golden retriever Zac belongs to an employee at the shelter. Maybe he's still available to shoot weddings?

Chris Hemsworth Posted The Greatest Ghostbusters Photo, Ever

Best photo, ever!

The new Ghostbusters movie has just hit theaters and cast member Chris Hemsworth decided to share a hilarious photo from the set.

On Sunday, Hemsworth posted a hilarious snapshot of himself with co-star Melissa McCarthy. In the picture, Hemsworth is suspended in midair while McCarthy pretends to hold him up with her super strength.

"[Melissa McCarthy] is the strongest woman in the world," he wrote in the caption. "Often in moments of joy she would pick me up like this and the combination of her powerful grip on my foot and my incredible core strength we would hold this pose for hours sometimes days."

He included the hashtags #strongwomen and #teamwork.

Ghostbusters is one of the most highly anticipated films of the year, thanks in part to doubts by many fans of the original that the new movie couldn't be funny — because it stars four women. Hemsworth plays the role of a very handsome, very dimwitted assistant.

It's good to see that he bonded so well with his castmates. Sequel?

This Hotel Offers The Ultimate Mountain View

Perhaps you've always dreamed of having a room with a view in the Swiss Alps. We doubt you dreamed up this "room." The Null Stern Hotel is actually just a double bed (nope, not even a king!) nestled into a picturesque mountain setting in Graubünden, Switzerland.

Null Stern (translation: "zero stars") is the work of Swiss conceptual artists Frank and Patrik Riklin, and was created as part of the Art Safiental land art festival. But it's not just art, you can literally stay there for about $250 a night, weather permitting, according to Travel + Leisure. In addition to the lack of roof and walls, there's also no bathroom. Butler service and a welcome basket are included, however.

This is the complete opposite setting of the previous Null Stern Hotel, which consisted of six single beds and four double beds in an underground nuclear bunker in Teufen, Switzerland. This version sounds a bit more tempting, though someone needs to tell us about the area's native predator population.

The scenery is nice, but does it have Wi-Fi?

Scream Queens Season 2 Spoilers Are All Over Instagram

Judging by season 2 spoilers leaked across Instagram, hot guys are disposable on Scream Queens. The campy horror-comedy picks up with the Chanels and the rest of the core female cast, who have been relocated to a creepy mental institution. But there's a brand-new batch of male eye candy walking the hospital halls. Although we'll miss the collective 18-pack of Nick Jonas, Diego Boneta, and Glen Powell in season 1, their replacements don't disappoint.

Rescued from his career as a Greek yogurt salesman, John Stamos will be playing the mental hospital's sketchy head surgeon, Brock Holt. Don't be deceived by the doctor's good looks. On Scream Queens, secrets always lurk behind smiles.

Doctor Brock Holt, that's right. #screamqueens @screamqueensfox

Twihards on Team Jacob will also be happy to meet one of the hospital's more suspicious medical professionals, Cassidy Cascade. Taylor Lautner's mysteriously afflicted character quickly gets caught up in murder mischief, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Show creator Ryan Murphy's seasonal rotation of hot guys stands out as a script-flip of Hollywood's tendency to reserve sexy roles for women. After all, the producer behind Glee and American Horror Story has been outspoken about the industry's need for diversity.

"I, personally, can do better," Murphy told The Hollywood Reporter in February when he was promoting the launch of his foundation, Half, which aims to get more women, people of color, and LGBTQ people behind the camera directing.

Murphy hasn't explicitly said it's a strategic move against sexism, but he certainly has a clear track record of creating women-centered shows and recurring female actors. Connie Britton and Jessica Lange appeared on multiple seasons of the American Horror Story anthology and Lea Michele starred in Glee and has top billing on Scream Queens.

Murphy continues that tradition in S cream Queens' second season, which features a bunch of familiar female faces — and signature accessories. Billie Lourd, for instance, returns as Chanel No. 3 with her earmuffs in tow.

Jennifer Lawrence Is The Inspiration For This Star Trek Beyond Character

Jennifer Lawrence is not physically in the new Star Trek movie, but she's definitely there in spirit.

According to Vulture, the movie's co-writer, Simon Pegg, who also plays Scotty (as in "beam me up"), said in a press conference that when he was writing Star Trek Beyond, he was thinking of Lawrence's character in 2010's Winter's Bone.

In that film, Lawrence plays a spunky Ozarks teen who has to figure out a way to save her family. For Pegg, the strong female role (which earned Lawrence first Oscar nomination), ended up becoming the inspiration for a new character in more ways than one.

“We were trying to create this very independent character. But we didn’t have a name for it,” Pegg explained. "So we just called it 'Jennifer-Lawrence-In- Winter’s-Bone.'"

But, as Pegg pointed out, that's a very long name, so he worked on trying to shorten it. "It started getting tiring always saying, 'Well Jennifer-Lawrence-In- Winter’s-Bone is fighting here,'" he said. "So, then, we started calling her J-Law. And then she became Jaylah.” Get it?

Now, every time Jaylah, played by Sofia Boutella, kicks butt, you'll know it's all in honor of Jennifer Lawrence.

Star Trek Beyond hits theaters July 22.

Can You Guess What The Most-Popular Emoji On Tinder Is?

On Tinder, sometimes words just can't express how you really feel. That's when you have to find the perfect emoji to say what you really mean. And it seems that users of the dating app seem to gravitate to certain emoji more often than others.

In honor of World Emoji Day, which falls on July 17, Tinder shared a list of the top 10 most-used emoji in profile bios. You may be surprised to know that they're all very G-rated.

According to Bustle, users tend to use certain food emoji — a pizza slice, a red wine glass, a coffee cup — all of which make perfect sense when trying to give a sense of your favorite dates. Sorry, no eggplants or peaches here.

Another surprise may be the fact that so many on Tinder are using the dancing lady to communicate with their potential matches. This would definitely complement the music-note emoji, however, which also lands on this list.

The globe is another popular choice, likely shorthand to express one's love for travel, while the smiling face with heart eyes is a perfect way to tell someone you're swooning.

The emoji of hands raised in praise also seems to get high praise from Tinder users, coming in at second on this list.

But the most-popular emoji on Tinder isn't all that surprising, since it's certainly one of the flirtiest emoji around: the blushing smiley face.

So, to get your flirt on, maybe add one of these emoji to accentuate your point. Who knows, you may even get one back.

Justin Bieber Shames A Fan From The Stage, Is That His Purpose?

Uh-oh, Justin Bieber. He's made so much progress in the past year in convincing us he's #sorry for all his bad behavior. But a clip from Friday's concert in Atlantic City, NJ, might be showing a crack in his reformed façade — or a few minutes of irritation in the midst of a long world tour. The singer was in the middle of one of his heartfelt speeches to the audience about what the meaning of the Purpose Tour really is — something about having purpose? Then, it seems, a fan in the front row tried to give him a hat, as fans do.

"If we could take this moment to listen and try not to give me a hat or whatever you're trying to throw onstage right now, because I probably don't want that shit," he says, interrupting his own speech (which comes to us from Teen Vogue). "Sorry, that was mean. I was deep in a mode, in a zone, and now I'm out of it. I'll get it back...I just wanted to take this moment to acknowledge the fact that we all have a purpose."

Well, at least he did acknowledge his rudeness. If you're going to go all Kanye West on your fans, though, you need to follow through with an even bigger statement. Maybe something about milk, for instance?

Gonorrhea May Soon Be Untreatable

$

0

Gonorrhea is a sexually transmitted disease that is treatable with antibiotics, but that may soon change.

According to STAT , the Centers For Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has found that the bacterial disease is developing a resistance to the drugs that are being used to cure it.

The CDC has found that there is an increasing number gonorrhea cases that have become resistant to the two drugs which are used in combination to treat the STD, azithromycin and ceftriaxone.

The rise in untreatable cases is small, but scientists say it is a warning of what could happen if these numbers are ignored, especially since gonorrhea is quite common. In 2014, more than 350,000 people in the United States were diagnosed with the STD.

If gonorrhea goes untreated, it can cause infertility or chronic pelvic pain in women and, in rare cases, testicular pain and infertility for men. A pregnant woman with untreated gonorrhea can also infect her baby during childbirth, which can lead to an vision-threatening eye infection.

Dr. Robert Kirkcaldy, an author of the CDC report, told STAT that the reason we must all take this study seriously is because "this bacteria has demonstrated the ability, repeatedly, to develop antibiotic resistance to the drugs that have been used for it.”

Kirkcaldy said that the potential for "untreatable gonorrhea is a very real possibility in the future," even going as far to say "it’s a matter of when, and not if, with resistance."

Kirkcaldy added, “This bug is so smart and can mutate so rapidly.”

How One San Francisco Woman Saves $1,500 A Month

$

Welcome toMoney Diaries , where we're tackling what might be the last taboo facing modern working women: money. We're asking millennial women how they spend their hard-earned money during a seven-day period — and we're tracking every last dollar. (Thanks,New York mag , for the inspiration.)

Today, a San Franciscan in biotech saving $1,500 a month for a down payment.

Industry: Biotechnology, data analytics, and strategy. I am extremely lucky to work for a company that has great perks (transportation, subsidized food, cell phone, and a gym — although I don’t use it), not to mention good health care and benefits. My monthly spending would undoubtedly be significantly higher if I switched jobs. It also helps that my office is a big campus/office-park setting where there isn’t a lot of temptation to spend money on lunch.

Age: 26

Location: San Francisco

Salary: $115,000 with $24K pre-tax bonus last year (bonus went straight into savings, minus a $150 celebratory dinner)

Paycheck Amount (2x/month): $2,638, after taxes, healthcare, HSA account contributions, and maxing out my 401(k) deductions for the year. I consider my monthly take-home pay to be $5,000 and keep the extra $138 in my checking as a cushion.

Number of roommates: 1 (my fiancé)

Monthly Expenses

Rent: $1,675, my half. We live in decent, but by no means luxurious, one-bedroom apartment (i.e., no dishwasher, no garbage disposal, bathroom with atrocious '70s tile and colors, etc.)

Loans: $0 (very fortunate to have gotten a scholarship and parents paid for room and board)

Utilities: $40, internet. We actually do have cable, because my fiancé likes to watch baseball. If it were up to me, we would just have HBO GO, so he pays the TV portion.

Cell Phone: $0, work pays for it. (I had the option of either getting a second iPhone just for work, or have work pay for my personal phone — clearly chose the latter).

House Cleaning: $100 a month. We have a housekeeper come twice a month and she charges $100 for each visit, so we take turns paying.

Netflix: $8

Future Fun: $450. At the beginning of the year, I tallied up the costs of all the trips, travel, weddings, major gifts, and expenses I knew I had to pay for, and then divided that by 12 to understand what I should be “saving” each month. That way, the big expenses don’t skew the picture of what’s really going on every month and that I don’t overspend in months where I don’t have to buy a plane ticket or gift and feel more flush than usual. As for my own wedding, we are planning on having a small, low-key ceremony at city hall followed by dinner out. Our parents will be graciously picking up the tab for that.

Transportation: $0 fixed. My company runs private shuttles from S.F. to our campus, located in South San Francisco near the airport. My fiancé also has a car (I contribute towards his car insurance, which is included in “Future Fun,” but usually not gas, unless we are taking a trip out of town).

Monthly savings for down payment: $1,500. I’ve got about $45,000 in savings so far, but the median home price in the Bay Area is like $800K, so it feels like chump change at this point.

Leftover discretionary money: ~$1,200

Day One

8:45 a.m — I make tea at home (20 cents per bag) and bring a Fage 2% yogurt to eat at my desk ($1, on sale from Safeway). $1.20

10:50 a.m. — I get hungry and swing by the office kitchen for an apple (we get a weekly fruit delivery on Monday that normally lasts until Wednesday or Thursday).

2:15 p.m. — Was too busy to stop and take a lunch break, so I eat some Mexican leftovers in the kitchen from an earlier meeting.

6 p.m. – Go for run in Golden Gate Park.

7 p.m. — Fiancé makes dinner: a layered salad of avocado, tomatoes, onion. We also make a flatbread out of half a ball of prepared pizza dough from Whole Foods (which are so good and only $1.29!) and eat it with some hummus. He pays for most of our dinner groceries and I pay for wine and booze. We are recovering from a boozy weekend, so no wine tonight. Catch up on HBO shows ( Veep, Silicon Valley, GoT, and John Oliver) and go to bed.

Daily Total: $1.20

Day Two

8:45 a.m. — Tea (20 cents per bag) and Fage ($1). $1.20

10:30 a.m — Grab another pear from the office fruit basket and also sneak a handful of peanut M&M's.

12:45 p.m. — Head over to the cafeteria, which is actually pretty decent (same food company as Google has); while not free, is subsidized, so the prices are pretty good. Get a large bowl of soup and some crackers. $2.56

1:30 p.m. — Our office is freezing, so make myself a bland, but free, cup of tea.

5:10 p.m — Walking home from shuttle, stop at CVS for a Diet Snapple, box of granola bars, face wash, Ziploc bags, and hand soap: $22.32

8 p.m. — Same dinner as last night, with the second half of the pizza dough as flatbread. Open up a bottle of red wine, $14. Prep for a big presentation tomorrow and go over my notes until bed. $14

Daily Total: $40.08

Day Three

8:45 a.m. — Same as other days, tea at home and yogurt at desk. $1.20

12 p.m. — Meeting during lunch, which is always catered. Today is sandwich boxes from Boudin Bakery.

2:15 p.m. — My friend has posted online asking for donations to fund her city’s chapter of Big Brothers Big Sisters, so I donate: $50

5:10 p.m. — Walking home from the shuttle and it’s gorgeous out. Stop for froyo, because I’m relieved my presentation went well and is over. $3.86

5:20 p.m. — Stop at public library to pick up a book that has been put on hold for me.

6 p.m. — Go for run in Golden Gate Park.

7:30 p.m. — Fiance makes bucatini all’amatriciana, one of our favorite meals. We probably eat pasta once a week to keep costs down, as well as have something simple. I picked up a bottle of red to have with it. $11

Daily Total: $66.06

Day Four

8:45 a.m. — Tea and yogurt. $1.20

12 p.m. — Go to office cafeteria for a BLT with avocado. $4.45

12:30 p.m. — Craving something sweet, so stop by snack cabinet for three mini Reese's.

4 p.m. — Perusing Madewell’s website and see a cute top that’s on sale, $38. Apparently, I normally spend about $120 per month on clothes according to my spreadsheets.

7 p.m. — We meet some friends at a bar to celebrate our recent engagement. I have a cocktail and two glasses of wine, along with some bar snacks. They are sweet and pick up the tab and we UberPool home, $6.75.

Daily Total: $50.40

Day Five

9 a.m. — Between the drinks last night and not eating a full dinner, I’m feeling not-so-hot and treat myself to a cappuccino and at the fancy office coffee bar. I also eat one of the granola bars I bought from CVS the other day. $2.85.

1 p.m. — Office cafeteria chana masala and rice. $4.15

2:45 p.m. — Read an article about Trump being more racist and misogynistic than normal, am prompted donate to HRC. $10

7 p.m. — We invite friends over for dinner and end up ordering pizza for everyone, since no one wants to cook. Everyone else brings wine, so no money spent on booze. I split the cost with my fiancé, so I pay $29.

10:15 p.m. — Some folks leave and want to go to a bar for another drink, but I’m feeling tired from last night and the week, so I crawl into bed, instead.

Daily Total: $46

Day Six

9:30 a.m. — Go out for bagels and coffee. $9

11 a.m. — Stop at Nordstrom Rack to get a new bra and manage to get out of there without buying anything else. $18.45

1 p.m. — Burrito and a Diet Coke from a taco truck for lunch, fiancé pays.

3 p.m. — We ended up walking all the way to Ocean Beach, because it’s sunny and warm out, but are too tired to walk the six-and-a-half miles home, so I call an Uber, $9

4 p.m. — Book a rental car for a wedding we are going to in Hawaii in September, but it’s already been planned for in the “Future Fun” budget. $48

7 p.m. — Eat leftover pizza for dinner, along with a salad fiancé made to supplement, and start watching OITNB season 4. We split a bottle of wine and have a quiet night in. $12.

Daily Total: $96.45

Day Seven

9 a.m. — Peanut-butter toast and coffee at home for breakfast.

11 a.m. — Go for a run and stop at a deli on the way back to pick up sandwiches and chips for myself and fiancé for lunch. $17.56

2:15 p.m. — Do laundry and nap. We have laundry in our basement, which is not coin-operated — huge perk!

3:30 p.m. — Walk to Whole Foods and buy a few things for the upcoming week, such as avocados, cheese, crackers, etc. $16.82

6 p.m. — Fiance’s family lives in the Bay Area, so we head down to Palo Alto for dinner at a steakhouse. We probably have family dinner two to three Sundays a month. His dad graciously pays for everyone.

Daily Total: $34.38

While most philanthropists are, by definition, generous, they usually get repaid in part for their efforts with recognition, maybe their names attached as a sponsor or engraved on a building. That's not the case an anonymous man nicknamed "Benny" in Salem, OR. Time reports that his preferred donation comes in the form of a $100 bill hidden in packages at stores, waiting to be discovered like a Willy Wonka golden ticket.

And it's not just one or two Benjamin Franklins. We're talking over $51,000 in donations — that's the total that Salem's Statesman Journal has kept track of, at least. How do we know Benny is a he? His first donations were actually made in person, back in 2013, when he visited a number of Boy Scout candy sales and dropped a few Benjamins in the box, refusing change. Since then, the Statesman Journal began hearing stories of people finding "Benny bills" tucked into boxes of cereal, snacks, and diapers at local grocery stores and Walmart locations. One was wedged into a car with a cracked window and another was discovered in a vendor's mug at an art fair.

Many of the recipients reported using the surprise gift to pay their bills. Others decided to donate the money to charity, sometimes matching the funds with their own $100. Capi Lynn, who's been on the Benny beat of the Statesman Journal since his donation spree began, reported that this past June saw his most activity to date, with 86 bills discovered. It can't be a coincidence that he ramped up his generosity in a year when everyone could use a little pick-me-up.

The Kid From Magic Mike Still Has Moves

The kid from Magic Mike doesn't just have moves on-screen, he's got them off, too. And he's showing them off to his Instagram followers.

As Cosmopolitan pointed out, actor Alex Pettyfer posted a clip of him dancing to Ginuwine's "Pony" while at the office of his business venture, the recommendation app Hypit.

"When you're working late at night and your team decide to bring up the past!!!" he wrote.

Pettyfer was a good sport about the whole thing, though, bashfully throwing ping-pong balls at the cameraperson before turning his chair around and going into full-on male-dancer mode.

It's clear, the Brit actor's definitely still got it.

Perhaps Pettyfer will think about bringing those moves to Las Vegas, when the Magic Mike Live hits the strip in March 2017.

Lena Dunham Shows Off Her Vintage Prom Dress

Lena Dunham is celebrating her late grandmother, Dot, by showing the power of a certain dress. One, Dunham insists, that has the same mysterious magic as the pants in the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants.

"My grandma gave me her vintage Dior to wear to junior prom," she captioned a 2003 photo of herself in the floral, emerald-green dress with bell-sleeves that she says was perfectly posed by "my mom before my date came."

It's clear from this snapshot that the dress is obviously beautiful and has us wishing we were that stylish in high school, but Dunham says the dress is special to her for another reason.

"I call it the Sisterhood of the Traveling Dress," Dunham wrote, "because she was so tiny yet somehow this fits everyone."

In another throwback of her grandma, who passed away on July 15, Dunham talks about how her grandma's size could be deceiving.

"That's a lot of strength, all springing forth from one tiny broad," she said of her grandma, who was the mother of three daughters. "We are lucky, humbled to have been present in her last days, full of love and gratitude."

Dunham also paid tribute by posting another, more recent shot of her stylish grandmother, which was shot by Dunham's mother, Laurie Simmons.

Dorothy Simmons: February 29 1920 - July 15 2016. We love you grandma Dot. Portrait by my mother @lauriesimmons.

Update: Obama Says Motive For Baton Rouge Shooter Unknown, 3 Officers Dead

Update: Police have closed in on a house in Kansas City, MS, that is listed as belonging to a person with the same name as the shooter in Baton Rouge, LA, The Associated Press reports. An AP reporter on-site says that officers were brandishing their weapons and asked those nearby to move away so they could confirm no one was in the house.

Update July 17, 2016, 6:05 p.m. EDT: A law enforcement official has identified the shooter as Gavin Long, reports The Associated Press.

The official spoke on condition of anonymity, due to the ongoing police investigation. There were no other details given about the shooter. His motive is still unknown.

Meanwhile, a Louisiana State Police spokesman told The AP that authorities believe the gunman who killed three officers was the only shooter. However, officials are unsure whether or not he had any accomplices.

"We are not ready to say he acted alone," Maj. Doug Cain told The AP.

Police confirmed that two people had been detained as "persons of interest."

Update July 17, 2016, 5:35 p.m. EDT: President Obama spoke after the deadly police shooting in Baton Rouge, LA, renewing his call for peace and saying "nothing justifies attacks on police officers."

The president confirmed that he spoke with the attorney general and that the FBI has been on the scene in Baton Rouge, LA. However, he noted, "As of right now, we don’t know the motive of the killer. We don’t know whether the killer set out to kill police officers..."

He finished his speech, calling for an end to divisive rhetoric and instead to seek unity going into the Republican and Democratic National Conventions. "Everyone, right now, focus on words and actions that can unite this country...we need to temper our words and open our hearts," he said.

Just after the president gave his remarks, Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton released a statement about the shooting.

Clinton called the shooting "devastating" and mirrored the president in a call for unity and peace.

"We must not turn our backs on each other. We must not be indifferent to each other. We must all stand together to reject violence and strengthen our communities," she said in the statement.

Update July 17, 2016, 4:35 p.m. EDT: Authorities have confirmed that there is “not an active shooter scenario in Baton Rouge" and suggested that the lone suspect in Sunday's deadly police shooting was killed at the scene during a press conference Sunday afternoon.

Col. Mike Edmonson, the superintendent of the Louisiana State Police, spoke to reporters on Sunday afternoon. He told reporters that there was an "active ongoing investigation" that included "a very large crime scene."

Residents were cautioned to stay clear of the area and to report any suspicious activity, adding that if they don't know their local police number, they call 1-800-CALL-FBI.

Col. Edmonson added, "We do believe...the person that shot and killed our officers is the person shot and killed at the scene," ending the search for other possible suspects involved in the shooting.

Authorities confirmed that three officers had been killed and three were injured; one officer remains in critical condition, while the other two officers' injuries are non-life-threatening.

According to police, dispatch received a call that a man was walking in the area, carrying a rifle. Louisiana is an open carry state. The individual was reportedly wearing all-black fatigues.

The suspect was later killed at the scene. Officers did not give additional information on the shooter or a possible motive.

During the press conference, Baton Rouge Mayor Kip Holden spoke on CNN. He said that the city must come together after the shooting.

Update July 17, 2016, 3:10 p.m. EDT: President Obama released a statement on Sunday condemning the shooting death of three Baton Rouge police officers.

The president said “there is no justification for violence against law enforcement.” He added, "These are attacks on public servants, on the rule of law, and on civilized society, and they have to stop.”

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump also condemned the shooting, but blamed it on a "lack of leadership."

"We grieve for the officers killed in Baton Rouge today," he said in a statement posted on Facebook. "How many law enforcement and people have to die because of a lack of leadership in our country? We demand law and order."

He also took to Twitter, saying, in part, "We are TRYING to fight ISIS, and now our own people are killing our police."

Meanwhile, Black Lives Matter activist DeRay McKesson — who was arrested while protesting in Baton Rouge last week — spoke to The New York Times via phone.

He said, "The movement began as a call to end violence. That call remains."

Update July 17, 2016, 1:20 p.m. EDT: Police are now searching for explosives at the scene, reports The Associated Press.

Police confirmed to The AP that they are using a specialized robot to check for explosives near the body of the suspect who was shot and killed on Sunday.

Baton Rouge Police Cpl. L'Jean Mckneely Jr. told The AP that authorities do not have an immediate indication that explosives are present.

Update July 17, 2016, 12:45 p.m. EDT: Three officers are dead and three others have been injured after an ambush shooting on Sunday morning, said the mayor of Baton Rouge and the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office.

At least one suspect is dead, but law-enforcement officials believe that two others may still be at large, the sheriff's office said in a statement posted online and at a press conference.

Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards called the shooting "an unspeakable and unjustified attack on all of us at a time when we need unity and healing" in a statement posted to Twitter.

This story was originally published July 17, 2016, 12:05 p.m. EDT.

According to local police, several officers in Baton Rouge, LA, have been shot while on duty, reports The Associated Press. Police were responding to a shooting near the Baton Rouge Police headquarters on Sunday. According to The AP, Baton Rouge Police Sgt. Don Coppola did not know the extent of the injuries and did not confirm the number of officers that had been injured.

The New York Times is reporting that as many as three officers are severely wounded after the encounter.

Baton Rouge has been the center of protests since white officers shot and killed Alton Sterling, a 37-year-old Black man, on July 5. The shooting was captured on camera and went viral. Protests have been held along Airline Highway, which runs in front of the Baton Rouge police headquarters.

Last weekend, hundreds of protesters were arrested. This weekend, protesters resumed demonstrations over Sterling's death.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.

The Night Of Episode 2 Recap: Who Is The "Subtle Beast"?

$

HBO's new crime thriller The Night Of has us in its grips as we try to figure out who killed Andrea Cornish.

In the second episode, titled "Subtle Beast," we learn a bit more about Naz's case, catch a glimpse of the inner-life of attorney John Stone and peep at Detective Box's personal motives, all while guessing at Andrea's shady history.

It's a slow-moving show, meant to be an eight-part movie, so instead of summarizing the play-by-plays of each hour-long episode, we're plotting out all the new clues, new suspects, and reemerging information. So, follow along every week for a collective brainstorm.

We're also posting all our crazy theories here.

Spoilers ahead.

New Suspects

Andrea's stepdad is definitely a potential suspect in my book. Don Taylor, in his leather jacket, and scruffy beard, comes off as nervous, sketchy, and definitely guilty of something. The most damning piece of evidence against Don is that he lied about the recognizing Andrea's body. Why would he do that? Is he just ridden in guilt from knowing that his stepdaughter has been gruesomely killed while he slept soundly in his Queens apartment? (If he was even there... I'm hoping to hear his alibi statement from him in a future episode.)

Taylor did contribute interesting background information about our victim, though. Key takeaways: she had lots of boyfriends (more potential suspects) and heavily-abused drugs.

When Naz's parents are being picked up to visit him at the precinct, we get a glimpse of Naz's brother standing in the doorway of the home, blankly staring at his parents. I'm getting a weird vibe from him. Remember that he's the one who wakes his parents up in the middle of the night to tell them Naz is missing — could he know something? Is that why he didn't go to visit his brother with his parents?

Naz's mom isn't a suspect at all, but she did have a shady moment. When Box came to collect evidence from Naz's house, she looks mighty suspicious when she tells her husband that she's doing "laundry." What was up with that?

Debunked Theories

No theories have been debunked yet. It still seems to me that Naz is not the one responsible for Andrea's death. Her own stepfather didn't seem too surprised or disturbed by the news of her passing — he couldn't even rule out the idea that she was a prostitute.

Predictions

There is much circumstantial evidence pointing to Naz, but that may change as more witnesses and cops turn out to be astoundingly unreliable. The two cops who originally picked up Naz had to rewrite their statements. The male cop even requested that he leave out that he threw up to protect his reputation (Because being sick from seeing a brutally stabbed body is embarrassing, and concealing weakness is way more important than having a truthful and thorough recap of the night. Amirite?)

What else would cops do to protect their reputation? Hopefully Stone catches onto the inconsistencies around the case and uses that to Naz's advantage.

We also find out how manipulative Detective Box, a.k.a "the subtle beast," can be. Stone calls him a "talented oppressor." Heeding Stone's warning, Naz eventually gives Box the cold shoulder. In return, Box calmly walks over to his whiteboard full of open cases, and dramatically scribbles "MURDER" next to Naz's name, thus officially charging him with Andrea's death.

To make matters worse, Box puts Naz in a Harvard t-shirt, which gives off the impression that he is a privileged rich kid, immediately alienating him from the fellow inmates. This seems to be all part of Box's elaborate plan to subtly wear Naz down emotionally until he admits to committing the crime.

This episode's most compelling Box moment though, is when he BLINKS when talking about Naz. Maybe he doesn't think him so guilty after all.

Reoccurring Things To Think About

There has been a lot of water symbolism in the show so far. During Andrea's autopsy examination we hear creaking pipes, and see leaky sinks. During Naz's commute to jail, we are shown murky puddles and dirty sewage drains.

The cat surely also means something. One of the crime scene investigators notes the overwhelming presence of cat hair in the girl's bedroom, but notes that the cat is missing. Did the killer take the cat? Could the pet somewhere provide a piece of evidence that could help, or hurt, Naz's case?

The obvious Taylor Swift and Katy Perry-style bad blood between Box and Stone will certainly come to a head. Stone is clearly the underdog, with Box as the big, bad bully detective. Maybe that will change?

Medical issues seem important here, namely Naz's asthma and Stone's eczema. Could this be an outward sign of their feeling like outcasts? Stone seems to be very aware of social prejudices, (for example, a Pakistani-American being referred to as “some Muslim freak [who] carved up a girl”) — perhaps that comes from being treated like a literal leper on the subway.

Also, Box's obsession with classical music is downright eerie.

How long has it been since we talked about Kanye West and Taylor Swift? Not long enough apparently. Like a cosmic convergence of pop cultural supernovas, tonight’s Keeping Up With The Kardashians brings together not only the feud/non-feud between West and Swift but also Fergie’s “M.I.L.F. $” video that is its own constellation of famous Hollywood moms, including Kim, and Kylie ’s legit scary stalker situation.

Kim tells Kris and Scott that Kayne is making a video for his song “Famous.” She gives them the outline for the video we’ve now all seen where the celebrities, including Caitlyn Jenner, are naked. Kris questions why he would include Caitlyn. “He likes people that are authentic. People that do what they want to do,” Kim says.

Scott helps us all out when he asks Kim what is going on with the Kayne/Taylor situation. Kim explains it this way: Kanye wrote the song “Famous” with the lyric about how he made Taylor Swift famous (a call back to the Grammys episode), and while he was recording it, he called Swift to get her okay. According to Kim, this is all on video, which she says Kayne has running “24/7” whenever he’s recording anything and especially for the conversation with Taylor because they knew it would be controversial. She says she definitely thinks he cared about how Swift felt about the song. But Taylor must have freaked out about the reaction and just flipped the script.

“So many fake things go on,” Scott says. Kim agrees. “So many. He’s just over it,” she says.

Kim and Kanye catch up about the situation on the phone. He is, as she said, over it. Kim has found out about a recording that someone made when Kanye was ranting about Taylor recanting her story. He says he doesn’t care, but Kim thinks that maybe he should. She’s on top of it and wants to talk to the team. Kayne agrees to let her handle it. “If you think it’s a big deal, I’ll follow your lead.” Kim is in full-on “Stand By Your Man” mode.

Kim shows up at Kourtney’s house to give her the download on her GQ interview. The interviewer asked her about how she felt when Kayne raps about having sex with other women, a pointed reference to the Swift line. Kim tells Kourtney that she was honest with GQ and told them exactly what happened. Kim suggests its just another way for Taylor Swift to play the victim. She says she’s had it with people feeling about her husband a certain way. She wants to protect him.

When Kris and Kim discuss the GQ interview, Kris suggests that Kim call Taylor Swift and just straight up ask what happened and how it all went south. “This is what I don’t understand,” Kris says. “Because I really do like her and I like her team, and I like her mom. I don’t understand what made her flip so quickly.”

Kim doesn’t have an answer, but she’s moved more to Kanye’s side of the fence. She’s over it. She says that he did the right thing and tried to be respectful. Kris reiterates her advice to call Taylor. “Thank you for your lovely advice, but I’m not going to take it,” Kim says. End of discussion.

Kim wasn’t the only half of the Kardashian-West unit that was pulling support duty this week. Kayne was on-set for Kim’s appearance in Fergie’s “M.I.L.F. $” video. From the beginning of the episode, Kim was stressing out about her appearance on camera. In the opening segment, she makes her first post-Saint appearance in Las Vegas just after posting that infamous naked selfie. She’s happy with her post-baby body but still not feeling it 100%.

In prepping for the video, Kim meets with B. Åkerlund, the stylist, and creative director. They discuss concepts and looks. Åkerlund asks Kim to describe herself in three words. Kim says she’s hates talking about herself—wait, what?—and can only come up with one word, sexy, before deflecting the conversation. They decide on a swimsuit that “sucks everything in” and a milk shower. Obviously. To Kim’s credit, she says she’s up for anything that that appears to be true. Kim says she’s proud to be part of the sexy mom’s club assembled for the shoot. “We totally get the mom struggle.”

At the actual shoot, Kim’s styling is leaning towards full-on pin-up with long, blonde hair and a bright red lip. Kanye steps in and objects, suggesting to his wife that the look is off-brand for her. Kim is relieved he said something because she agrees but might not have spoken her mind. The shoot goes off without a hitch. Kim doesn’t fall down in the shower on her 10-inch heels. She pours herself into her latex “Got M.I.L.F?” get up. She snaps a selfie with Chrissy Teigen and Fergie. She even gets some good vibes out of the whole thing. “People always say the word MILF, and you hope that you become one,” she says. “ I feel like this song, and this message is all about empowering women.”

Throughout the episode, viewers get glimpses of a serious stalker situation that has become Kylie’s reality. Kris reveals to Kourtney and Kylie that the stalker that Kylie has been dealing with wasn’t actually released from the psychiatric ward where he was being held. He escaped. Someone suggests that Kylie could get a German Shepard attack dog. Kylie imagines that a German Shepard would look cute in photos. Kourtney is concerned. “If she’s worried about taking photos then she’s not taking this seriously enough.”

Kourtney, Kim, and Khloé decide to take extreme measures to scare their youngest sister into taking her stalker more seriously. Kylie’s Snapchat keeps getting her into trouble by posting her location. According to Kourtney, even the cops have warned Kylie away from letting social media tag her location.

In a very old school Arrested Development move, the sisters decide to stage an elaborate prank to “teach her a lesson.” Kourtney and Khloé go to lunch with Kylie. During the meal, she’s Snapchatting away. There is a crowd of paparazzi and fans all waiting when they leave. Kylie’s car is covered in pink balloons with her face on them. She’s confused and embarrassed, but she instantly puts the pieces together. “You guys did this,” Kylie says. No lesson learned today.

Kris tells Kourtney that Kylie called her upset and crying. Kylie felt disrespected, according to Kris. Kourtney admits that the prank was a flop. There were too many people around. Kris explains that Kylie is trying to do so much, and the situation is stressing her out, even if she doesn’t talk about it. If her sisters are trying to get her to take it seriously, there was a better way to go about it.

Kourtney and Kylie clear the air. Kourtney apologizes, and Kylie assures her that she is taking it seriously. Kylie is determined to live her life and says she can’t be scared by these things. Like Kim to Kris about the Taylor situation, Kylie basically says, ‘thanks, but I got this.’

Kayne’s over it. Kim’s over it. Now Kylie’s over it. We can only hope that someone explains it all to Scott.

Kim Kardashian Snapchatted THAT Call Between Kanye West & Taylor Swift

Deuces up. Kim Kardashian has had enough. Following tonight's episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians, which broke some behind-the-scenes footage of Kanye West's "Famous" video, Kardashian unleashed some behind-the-scenes intel of her own. That conversation she said Taylor Swift and Ye had in GQ magazine, where he told Tay-Tay all about the song before it came out? Kim wasn't lying.

The video shows Kanye in the studio (with some background shots of very chilled-out producer Rick Ruben just hanging while this goes down), talking on the phone to a voice that is very obviously Taylor Swift. (If you don't Snapchat, watch the whole thing on this Instagram account.)

The convo starts with Kanye asking Swift if she has her Nashville number before cutting to him reading that line to her. She responds by saying, "I'm this close to overexposure."

Ye responds, "I think this is a really cool thing to have."

Then, Swift laughs and says, "Yeah, I think it's like a compliment."

She effusively thanks him for giving her the heads-up on this, saying she never would have expected it, and gushes over the flowers he sent her.

"I don't think anybody who is listening to that [would] be like, 'Oh, that it's a real dis, she must be crying,'" Taylor says before explaining that it's cool that Kanye didn't know who she was that infamous night at the 2009 VMAs — even though her album had sold 7 million copies. Not passive aggressive at all.

Then, things get really damning. Taylor straight-up says exactly what Kim told GQ she said. And that she fully denied.

"If people ask me about it, I think it would be great for me to be like, 'They called me and told me the line before it came out. Joke's on you guys, we're fine,'" she says. "You guys want to call this a feud, you want to call this throwing shade but right before this song comes out I'm going to be on the Grammy red carpet and I'm going to be like, 'He called me!'"

Kim's tweets today make SO much more sense.
