Here Are 31 Weird Hangover "Cures" That People Swear By

Image may be NSFW.

Illustrated by Louisa Cannell.

Hey there, welcome back to hell. You swore you'd never drink that much again — or at least that you'd never drink that much of that again. But here we are. You're hungover. And you want it to stop. Now.

First, the bad news: Science is pretty clear that there's really no such thing as an actual hangover cure. In fact, we're still not even sure why hangovers happen to begin with — despite the fact that our species has been getting drunk and, presumably, hungover for thousands of years.

So any wacky-sounding product out there that claims to beat your Sunday morning bleariness probably isn't operating off of anything exactly, uh, real.

But there's still good news! Even if there aren't any conclusive studies to back us up, many of us have found our own weird hangover "cures." And maybe one of them will work for you. Plus, most of these suggestions are operating on some very simple rules — water, over-the-counter painkillers, and a substantial meal (if your stomach is up for it) can be truly lifesaving on those roughest of mornings.

If those don't help, however, consider that exercise (I know, I know) may undo some of the damage that alcohol incurs. And, of course, if you're not starting to feel better within a few hours or you're concerned about the frequency or severity of your hangovers, a check-in with your doctor may be in order.

In need of immediate help (or just, you know, some inspiration for next time)? Click through for 31 R29 staffers' go-to hangover "cures" — and, seriously, drink some water.

What To Do If Your Family Hates Your S.O.? Khloé Kardashian Has The Answers

Image may be NSFW.
Clik here to view.

Khloé Kardashian is giving us her unfiltered dating advice, and it's actually pretty good.

Of course Khloé, most outspoken of the family, is able to cut through the BS and offer a crystal-clear answer to the age-old question: What do you do if your family doesn't like your significant other? (Cough, Rob Kardashian and Blac Chyna.)

Khloé gives a two-part answer; think of it as a Choose Your Own Adventure. First, she suggests that you listen to your family members and hear them out. "If your family really doesn't like someone, you should pay attention and listen to their reasons," the reality star wrote on her website. But, she notes, "If the problem is related to personality, then there is nothing you can do about it." So, if the issue comes down to a clash of personalities (and not real deal breakers) then you, as the person in the relationship, have control over what you want to do next. You can either listen to your family, or you can ignore them.

"When the reasons for not liking someone are superficial or easily changeable, then ignore the haters, LOL!" she writes. "Sometimes, people come off a little distant or quiet, but maybe they're shy and still getting comfortable. If that's the case, your family should give your boo a second chance, or at least try to get to know that person better."

Khloé subtly brings her little brother Rob and his fiancé, Chyna, into the equation when she gives an example of when to trust your own gut instinct over your family's. "Your mom may be afraid to lose her son for selfish reasons, for example," she writes, clearly referring to Kris Jenner's initial reluctance when it came to accepting Chyna into their family.

So, listen to your family, and don't listen to them. Even though it sounds like a mixed message, it's good advice to consider when you're taking a new boo home for the holidays.

Meet The Mall Of America’s First Black Santa

It's the one line that kids are excited to wait in every holiday season. They might fidget waiting for the cashier to ring up the Christmas shopping or whine over that Elsa doll they just have to have, but this one they have patience for.

In malls across the U.S., giddy children stand in queues to meet Santa Claus and take a picture with him. They sit in his lap and whisper their wishes for Xmas morning while loved ones look on and click click click. And generally that jolly, bearded, red-velveted man happens to be white.

But, what it if this year, Santa were Black?

The Mall of America, the largest shopping mall in the country, is answering that question this Christmas by having a Black Santa Claus for the first time in its 24 years. It's about time, right?

His name is Larry Jefferson, and he is a retired Army veteran. He is as popular with the kids as any of his predecessors, and his schedule is fully booked.

"Kids love Santa no matter what color you are," he told The Huffington Post.

His "Santa experience" gig only lasts four days, but it's a good first step toward diversity during the holiday season.

"There needs to be more Santas of color, because this is America, and kids need to see a Santa that looks like them,” he told The Washington Post. "That helps kids to identify with the love and spirit of the holiday, you know?"

We couldn't agree more.

Rihanna Schools Us In The Art Of Exceptionally High-Waisted Pants

Image may be NSFW.

There are a few very specific, unlikely fashion items that only Rihanna could turn us on to. Creeper sneakers? We now have them in every color. A meta political T-shirt? Yeah, we're (still) with her. Wine glasses as accessories? Well, that last one is still fairly aspirational. The point is, Rihanna manages to convince us we can pull off some very out-there silhouettes, so long as we channel our inner Bad Gal. Now, you can add higher-than-high-waisted trousers to the list.

Image may be NSFW.

Photo: Chris Jackson/Getty Images.

In case you missed it, Rihanna was hanging out with Prince Harry in Barbados this week. Unsurprisingly, she did so in the highest of fashion — and with the highest of waistbands. For a World AIDS Day event, Rihanna opted for a pair of wide-legged, pinstriped trousers. Maybe she was taking a cue from the corset trend, since her extra-high-rise bottoms nearly covered her torso.

With such statement bottoms, our instinct would be to go for an understated top. But that's simply not the Bad Gal way: Rihanna went for an equally dramatic silhouette for her blouse, pairing the structured trousers with a slightly off-the-shoulder white top with an oversized collar. Top it all off with some acetate cat-eye sunglasses, and you've got yourself a business-casual look, served à la Riri.

RHONY's Countess Luann Reveals Her Elaborate Wedding Plans

Image may be NSFW.
Clik here to view.

Here comes Countess Luann de Lesseps, a bride who is ready to divulge all the secrets of her upcoming New Year's Eve wedding.

The Real Housewives of New York star recently stopped by Steve Harvey's show to fill him in on all the details to her Palm Beach nuptials with fiancé Tom D’Agostino Jr.

De Lesseps says it's going to be a "traditional wedding" — and adds that it'll be a three-day affair. It'll start with a rehearsal dinner on a yacht, a suggestion from a friend. On her wedding day, the countess plans to wear not one dress, but three.

"I wanted to wear something traditional to walk down the aisle, because Tom has never been married," de Lesseps, who was previously married to banker Alexandre de Lesseps for 16 years, said. "So I wanted to be his bride."

She added that in honor of the holiday, she also plans to wear something "blingy."

Her wedding day also happens to be D'Agostino Jr.'s 50th birthday, so she says she plans to sing a little something for him, but wouldn't divulge if it was one of her originals, like "Money Can't Buy You Class."

De Lesseps also spoke out the "bump in the road" she hit with D'Agostino earlier this year, when he admitted to kissing another woman. “It’s very easy to walk away,” she said, adding, but "if you can't forgive someone you love, then who can you forgive? It's made us strong than ever."

In the end, all that matters to de Lesseps is that she's getting a fresh start with someone she loves. “I feel really lucky to have a second chance," she said. "At over 50 years old, I’m getting married again."

Catch more of what Countess Luann had to say about her wedding when her episode of The Steve Harvey Show airs Monday, December 5.

The Top Breakup Song Of 2016 Might Help You Get Through A Holiday Split

Image may be NSFW.
Clik here to view.

If breakup songs have one thing in common (other than the fact that, you know, they're usually about a relationship ending), it's that they're pretty darn sad. How refreshing, then, that 2016's most popular breakup song, according to Spotify, isn't a straight-up downer. In fact, you probably danced to it last summer: "One Dance" by Drake, featuring Wizkid and Kyla.

Although it isn't exactly a natural choice for post-relationship feels, "One Dance" certainly has a melancholy sensibility. Drake repeatedly alludes to running out of time and mentions that he's been fighting with the unnamed partner, whom he addresses throughout the song. And with all the mentions of grinding and Hennessy, it's safe to say that the seeds of a romantic split are being planted.

Unfortunately, there could be a lot of people out there right now in need of a cathartic breakup song like this one, since breakups tend to spike during the holiday season. And strangely enough, studies suggest that songs addressing how painful splits can be may actually help people feel better. So for now, let's just enjoy the fact that at least we have a breakup song to which we can nod our heads. (One can only sit still and brood to Adele for so long.)

Just in case "One Dance" hasn't been playing in your head since you started reading this, you can listen to it below.

Khloé Kardashian's Retro Workout Video Disappoints Us For One Reason

Image may be NSFW.

The world of '90s-style fitness tapes just got a modern addition: Khloé Kardashian. In a peppy video featuring the reality star on a field surrounded by mountains, she demonstrates some of her favorite lower-body moves, all set to cheesy old dance music. We love it. Or at least, we really, really want to love it.

But then she introduces the workout like this: "These are a few of my favorite sculpting moves to look great in a pair of jeans," she says. Why do we always have to talk about fitness in terms of changing our bodies, rather than taking care of our bodies? This is frustrating because (again) anyone can look fabulous in jeans, and there are plenty of better reasons to motivate you to work out.

According to the description of the video, posted to Vogue 's Youtube channel and shared by Cosmopolitan, the routine is geared toward looking your best in the pants in Khloé's denim line. Given the body shaming on Khloé's new show, we're not exactly surprised by that.

Still, the workout itself is pretty good. She starts off with jump squats to get the blood flowing. Then, she takes us through a squat lateral raise, back lunges alternating with side squats, a sandbag bridge, a one-leg deadlift using a kettle bell, and a clean squat with a sandbag. We just wish this advice weren't wrapped up in such a problematic package, with the title "Khloé Kardashian's Better Butt Workout." (Sigh.)

The video also contains some classic motivational lines. "There's nobody standing between me and you," she reassures viewers. She concludes with the message: "Remember, you guys will never regret doing your workout. You'll regret not doing your workout." Deep as usual, Khloé.

12 Books About The Kennedys To Read After You Watch Jackie

In my opinion, one of the best parts about watching a based-on-history TV show or biopic isn't the actual production itself. Instead, it's the black hole I find myself in afterwards, Googling and paging through lists of books I need to read to learn more on the subject.

And after watching Jackie — the breathless, stirring new film starring Natalie Portman as Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis —I found myself in a hole that lasted a full week. The film artfully captures an especially harrowing period of Onassis' life: the days following her husband's assassination. While it could have been a rehashing of things we already know, this movie gives new insight into the former First Lady's life and legacy — and it also left me wanting to know everything I could about the Kennedy family.

As the credits rolled and I walked to the subway, I immediately started researching. I wanted to read more about John F. Kennedy as a child, Jackie's later life in book publishing, her relationship with Bobby Kennedy, and more. But when the internet began to feel overwhelming (there are hundreds of articles out there, let me tell you!), I turned instead to adding some books to my wish list to answer any question I could ever possibly have about the Kennedy family.

So here are the dozen best books that I found. I hope these will help in your own post- Jackie journey. Don't be shy about sharing reading suggestions of your own in the comments, too. I'm still not satisfied on my Camelot quest.

Jackie opens in theaters December 2.

Listening In: The Secret White House Recordings of John F. Kennedy

Foreword by Caroline Kennedy

First up on your reading list will likely be John F. Kennedy himself, of course. JFK notoriously installed secret recording devices in the Oval Office; after his death, that meant that hundreds of hours of audio of the president making crucial decisions in the midst of a nuclear crisis, the Civil Rights movement, and more were available for dissecting. The collection of transcripts includes annotations and a foreword from his daughter, Caroline.

Jacqueline Kennedy: Historic Conversations On Life With John F. Kennedy

Foreword by Caroline Kennedy

What better way to learn more about JFK and Jacqueline Kennedy than from Jackie herself?

This collection includes transcriptions of seven recorded interviews with historian Arthur Schlesinger about President John F. Kennedy's legacy and Jackie's life with him. The full eight (!) hours of interviews include her commentary about their relationship and marriage, but also more about JFK in his private life. This one's also got a personal foreword by daughter Caroline Kennedy.

When We Were The Kennedys: A Memoir From Mexico, Maine

By Monica Wood

For readers too young to remember what the world felt like immediately following the assassination of President Kennedy, check out Monica Wood's memoir of her own father's death — and how her family healed, all in the same year of the death of the country's president.

The author reflects on grieving her father by also relating to Kennedy's own daughter, Caroline, while crafting a moving memoir that reminds us how our own stories can unexpectedly become intertwined with history.

A Woman Named Jackie

By C. David Heymann

This best-seller is widely known as the ultimate Jackie O. biography for readers thirsty for detailed, and juicy insight into her life. In fact, the bio was so popular that it inspired a 1991 mini-TV series — just a few years before Kennedy Onassis's death — starring Marianna Bishop as the former first lady.

One Special Summer

By Jacqueline and Lee Bouvier

Before she was a First Lady, Jacqueline Bouvier was a young girl with the same dreams many of us a teenager: Seeing the world.

It was as an 18-year-old that she traveled to Europe for the first time with her younger sister, Lee. The pair created an illustrated diary of their travels, which they gifted to their parents upon return. Little did they know that the book would one day become available for the entire world to get a look at what life was like for the young and free Bouvier girls.

Bobby and Jackie: A Love Story

By C. David Heymann

One of the best things about Jackie is that the filmmakers make it clear that Jackie Kennedy and her brother-in-law Bobby had a special relationship.

But if you're interested in learning just how special it got, biographer C. David Heymann's followup to A Woman Named Jackie tackles their alleged love affair head-on, complete with evidence from FBI documents and first-person accounts of friends and employees familiar with their four-year dalliance.

Mrs. Kennedy And Me

By Clint Hill

If we're to believe Scandal (okay, or history) the person who most likely spends the most time with a president or first lady might not even be family — but their Secret Service Agent.

So it makes sense that Special Agent Clint Hill, who spent four years serving Jackie before and after her first husband's assassination, would know it all. In fact, it was Hill who was there the day Jackie cradled her husband's head in her lap as they sped to the hospital after he was shot. As Amazon describes the 2012 novel: "Mrs. Kennedy’s strength, class, and dignity over those tragic four days in November 1963 held the country together. This is the story, told for the first time, of the man who perhaps held her together."

Jackie As Editor: The Literary Life Of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis

By Greg Lawrence

Much has been said about Jackie Kennedy's time as first lady and her many romances, but lesser-written about is her time (19 years!) as a book editor.

In fact, it wasn't until she was 46 years old that she went to work for the first time on her own. In this 2011 book, Greg Lawrence — who had his own work edited by Kennedy Onassis — spoke to over 100 of her colleagues and collaborators to get a sense of who the mother, wife, and former First Lady was as a working woman.

Fairy Tale Interrupted: A Memoir Of Life, Love, And Loss

By Rosemarie Terenzio

When you've made your way through reading about JFK and Jackie, you can move on to the unfortunate tragic stories of other family members — including, of course, John F. Kennedy Jr.

There are two intriguing stories about his short life told through two different women: This one is by Rosemarie Terenzio, his personal assistant. Terenzio, a "blue-collar" Italian girl from the Bronx, didn't expect to befriend the son of a former president, but in her novel she chronicles her memories of how their close friendship blossomed over the years.

The Missing Kennedy

By Elizabeth Koehler-Pentacoff

Another somewhat scandalous element of the Kennedy family tree worth digging into is the story of Rosemary Kennedy.

Coincidentally, there were two books released about John F. Kennedy's little-known-about sister recently: This first, out last October, was written by the niece of Rosemary Kennedy's longtime caregiver, who saw to the "slow learner" for years after she underwent one of America's first ever (and secret) lobotomies in 1941. Sad stuff, but also deeply fascinating.

Rosemary: The Hidden Kennedy Daughter

Kate Clifford Larson

Also in October of last year came another look at the secretive and sad life of Rosemary. This one is more straightforward and based on facts from resources closest to the life of Kennedy: Her diaries, letters, and interviews with family members.

(One of the biggest revelations? That JFK himself visited Rosemary for the first time in 20 years while campaigning in the midwest.) Prepare to shed a tear for a heartbreaking story that could have been so different had she lived in a different era — and in a different family.

Hawaii's About To Get A Foot Of Snow — Wait, What?!

Now that it's colder, you might be starting to plot your escape to a tropical paradise. If Hawaii made it on your list of places to flee to, you might want to think twice before packing your bags. According to Buzz60, parts of Hawaii are about to see up to a foot of snow.

You might be shocked by this forecast since the islands are go-to beach vacation destinations, but apparently, it's actually not out of the norm. The video reports that snow actually hits certain parts of the island pretty much every year. Where are these snowy regions of the state that no one seems to ever think about? They're spots of high elevation, which makes sense. The snow will hit Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa, both of which have about a 13,000-foot elevation.

CBS News says a winter storm warning will be in effect through this afternoon for the areas above 8,000 feet. Aside from the snow, Mauna Kea could get winds of up to 50 miles per hour, as well as below-freezing temperatures. Buzz60 tells us the snow doesn't usually stick around for too long, so hopefully it will be gone by the time you start getting truly desperate for your warm-weather getaway. That, or you could just stay off the highest maunas when you get there.

Liz Granger is a Nebraska-born, Chicago-based nonfiction writer and former Fulbright grantee. The views expressed here are her own.

“Who knows what makes an impact anymore? I don’t!” wrote Carson Vaughan, a journalist (and friend) from Broken Bow, NE, population: 3,559, in an explanation of his new op-ed project. “But, I do know that if I opened up a newspaper and found a full-page ad/op-ed stating loudly that my hometown is seen as a hostile place by many, and that was signed by a thousand people who live/lived there once, I'd probably notice.”

Vaughan comes from a place coastal people call “flyover country,” a term many of us who grew up there see, not only as a stereotype, but as a slur. Like me, Vaughan left his Midwest hometown for a bigger city, and like me, he was shocked by the election results. Now, Vaughan is trying to communicate across the divide between urban and rural America by organizing like-minded people with small-town roots into crowdfunding and jointly writing an advertisement that expresses their views. He plans to run his ad, in the form of an open letter, in rural western Nebraska in midsize publications. The project has attracted more than 200 supporters to date.

Vaughan is one of a slate of journalists trying to make sense of post-election America, and analyze how the press performed in bringing the concerns of rural America to the forefront. Some say that the mainstream media lost touch with an economically depressed segment of non-urban Americans. But as Alecia Swasy wrote on Poynter this week, others argue that, “The best coverage of serious issues facing rural America has been delivered” by big papers such as The New York Times and The Washington Post.

This public debate about media failure doesn’t often take rural reporting into account — but it should. A handful of outlets have been producing high-quality media for and about rural and underrepresented communities, before and after Donald Trump’s win. Whatever your stance on the state of journalism in our nation, you need to know about these under-the-radar gems.

For starters, take Belt magazine. In her excellent piece for Refinery29, Anne Trubek explains that the Rust Belt-oriented mag and small press that she founded in 2013, Belt Publishing, has been covering newly hot-button topics such as the white working class and redlining — withholding services like home mortgages in a discriminatory manner — for a long time. Nonetheless, she agrees that more coverage of our nation’s non-coastal, non-urban issues and people is essential. Not coverage by big-city writers “based on their five hours on the ground,” as Trubek describes parachute writing, but by local journalists who understand the daily reality of their communities and are struggling to support themselves.

Enter the Daily Yonder, a publication with a longtime commitment to the nuances of rural life. This online source for news, opinion, and photography from rural America was established in 2007 by the Center for Rural Strategies, a media nonprofit dedicated to improving coverage and dialogue around our country’s vast lands. Editor Tim Marema says that, although he sees great writing about rural areas originating from mainstream newspapers, he finds problems with the way outlets cover news outside of major cities.

“News outlets have been closing their small-town bureaus, pulling their reporters back,” Marema said. “Into that vacuum has stepped a steady diet of talk radio, Fox News, and Focus on the Family. We’ve ceded the communications infrastructure of rural America to the right wing.”

Marema said that the Daily Yonder works to present information in a less partisan, more “evenhanded, honest broker way.” Writers cover Native American affairs, the post-coal economy, religion, agriculture, and broadband access. “If you want to get rural people to agree on something…don’t bring up housing or education vouchers,” Marema laughed. “Bring up broadband.”

Like Marema, Nebraska-based freelance journalist Jacob Zlomke finds gaps in coverage for broad swaths of our country. That’s why during his college years, a few years ago, he spent two summers in a small town, Valentine, NE. Zlomke and three friends “embedded ” in Valentine in order to tell stories that the Cornhusker State’s big newspapers missed. The project, which they eventually named Fly Over Me, birthed a website, photo essays, video, and longform features — and the February founding of Flyover Media, a nonprofit that produces multimedia journalism about underrepresented communities. Flyover Media solicits and publishes stories such as this one about ranchers whose livelihoods are threatened by Houston’s sprawl; and this one about the history and culture of U.S. Route 23, between Virginia and Ohio, which is the site of one of our nation’s largest internal migrations.

Recently, Zlomke has been considering the exchange between readers of urban and rural media. “I think about who the media intends as their audience when they say that we need to cover rural areas better,” Zlomke says. “They’re not talking to those rural areas directly,” but rather talking about them. This relates to where and how journalism is distributed. “There’s not many people in Custer or Cherry County sitting at their desks reading think pieces on BuzzFeed.”

Like Zlomke, Katie Farritor, a coordinating producer for RFD-TV, the television channel of Rural Media Group, finds that non-urban audiences sometimes require different media delivery methods. Founded in 2000, RFD-TV says that it is the “first 24-hour television network featuring programming focused on the agribusiness, equine, and the rural lifestyle, along with traditional country music and entertainment,” according to its website. In 2013, the network launched Rural Radio, its agribusiness and rural lifestyle channel. Unlike her media group’s lifestyle programming on television, Farritor says that audiences tend to consume her company’s news shows via radio “because farmers are out in the field. Most of the time the farmers aren’t listening to us by watching TV. They’re listening from their tractors.”

When it comes to reporting from underserved and rural communities, models vary. Chicago’s 1-year-old City Bureau focuses on news related to the Windy City’s south and west sides; runs a reporting fellowship and mentor program; and offers a weekly conversation and workshop space that’s open to the public. Appalachian Kentucky’s Appalshop, an arts and culture nonprofit, offers community programming such as a film workshop, a radio station, a theater company, a record label, an art gallery, and a summer media training workshop for young people.

I’m sensing an openness to big ideas all around me at the close of 2016, as was the case in the groovy and tumultuous 1969, the year Appalshop was founded. And as the Nebraska-born daughter of parents whose hometowns count 1,200 and 128 persons, I am excited by how many of those ideas center around rural America: Both journalists and regular folks are reflecting on how they relate to small towns. I find Vaughan’s op-ed and chatter of new symposiums and conferences energizing. I’ve been talking to friends who imagine a Peace Corps-like program in which residents from urban and rural America temporarily exchange places. Personally, I wonder about a cooperative model for place-based coverage, like a Netflix for small outlets, an idea inspired by Appalshop’s unlimited monthly subscription to its vast media library.

All of this in service of a term I used to hate: flyover country.

On Wednesday, November 9, the morning after my election party turned into a wake, I listened as a New York Times political podcaster said, earnestly, “We need to understand flyover country. But flyover country is not a place; it’s a state of mind.” I tensed. In that instant, I found myself upset by something other than just my nation’s election of a bigoted pussy grabber. The reporter’s curt dismissal of my homeland, Omaha, NE, offended me. “Flyover country.” I bristled, defenses aroused. I felt an invisible wall rise between me and the voices of my trusted podcast.

Since then, my opinion has changed.

Flyover country is a stereotype and a slur that slid easily from the tongue of a mainstream news reporter. But flyover country is also a term, like pussy, worthy of reclamation and complication. It’s an elegy for cities and towns that travelers once crossed by road and rail, for the neighborhoods divided by urban highways, for empty factories and consolidated schools. It’s fire departments that are too white and 100-yard fields where sports fans roar every weekend. It’s the interconnectedness of this globalized world, worker safety at the packing house, my Latina high school classmate who asked for advice on which gun to buy in self-defense after a racist white man threatened her just after Trump’s victory.

“‘Flyover country’ is the last acceptable stereotype,” a friend boldly claimed over Chinese food last week. Maybe so. Probably not. But that great big empty sure does overflow with stories.

Mila Kunis gave birth to her second child with Ashton Kutcher in the wee hours on Wednesday morning. Today, the couple revealed the name of their brand-new baby boy. Nope, it's not Hawkeye. Kutcher Jr. is named Dimitri Portwood.

The proud parents announced the name via A Plus, the media site founded by Kutcher. According to A Plus, Dimitri weighed in at a respectable 8 pounds, 15 ounces. He will be joining big sister Wyatt, the couple's 2-year-old daughter. Whether we're going to get a photo of the bound-to-be-cute baby DPK or not remains to be seen.

"We'd like to allow our kids to make their own choices on whether to have a life in the public eye or not," Kutcher told A Plus over the phone. "We don't want to make the choice for them."

Hopefully, he'll be happy with the distinguished, but somewhat traditional-sounding, name mom and dad chose for him. We think it's pretty cute!

How Many People Does It Take To Put A Stiletto On Mariah Carey?

Image may be NSFW.

"She puts her shoes on one foot at a time, just like the rest of us." That's an expression you'd think would apply to, well, everyone. However, as we've seen, it doesn't always apply to celebrities. Kendall Jenner needed two assistants to lace up her strappy, thigh-high heels for the MTV Movie Awards. Now, we're learning that Mariah Carey also requires some assistance when it comes time to slip on her footwear, according to Footwear News.

In a clip from her upcoming docuseries, Mariah’s World, we meet Carey inside a yacht (because, of course). She's dressing herself — or, rather, having other people dress her — for an event. We know that, sometimes, a fancy dress requires a little help. (Who hasn’t asked their roommate to zip them up every once in awhile?) But the “Touch My Body” singer takes it to a whole new level: she has not one, not two, not three, but four people put her shoes on for her.

"Oprah told me, 'Don’t ever let anybody think that you don’t know how to put your shoes on anymore,'" Carey tells the camera in the clip. However, when it pertains to the particular pair of platform lace-up heels Mimi picked out for the evening, she concedes: "The problem is these shoes are abusive and I can’t put them on alone. I’m not gonna lie about it." How's that for a punch line?

Now, don't think Carey's loved ones are going to just let her get away with that without having a laugh. Her manager points out that, no matter what Oprah says, Carey does have a whole posse at hand to get her properly laced up into her stilettos. Mariah, of course, takes the burn ever so fabulously. Hey, we wouldn't expect anything less fabulous from Mimi.

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend Recap: Hi, Trent

Image may be NSFW.
Clik here to view.

We knew from the promos (and the cast) that this week's episode of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend would include a Spice Girls sendup — and it did not disappoint.

"Friendtopia " is everything you'd want from a Spice Girls parody. There are British accents, serious hair whips, and even a "zigazig ah." The song, about a government coup fueled by empowered women, is ridiculous and over-the-top. (Friendtopia's citizens face death if they don't watch Hocus Pocus.) But then again, the idea of Rebecca (Rachel Bloom), Valencia (Gabrielle Ruiz), and Heather (Vella Lovell) hanging out together is pretty ridiculous, too.

On its face, the episode is about Rebecca's new "squad" with Valencia and Heather. But at its core, "Friendtopia" really about her relationship with Paula (Donna Lynne Champlin). So far this season, we've seen Rebecca be a less-than-stellar friend to Paula — not writing her law school recommendation on time, for example. They've also been drifting apart — Paula is friends with fellow student Sunil (Parvesh Cheena) and Rebecca has her girl group. All of the tension between them comes to a head in this episode.

Rebecca invites Paula to her and Heather's new home (which, incidentally, was the setting for several murders). Paula expects a night that's just the two of them. Instead, Valencia and Heather are there, too. To make things worse, Paula ends up getting stuck in the bathroom, which leads to a spot-on parody of R. Kelly's "Trapped in the Closet."

After sitting through Karen's (Stephnie Weir) hilarious sex toy sales pitches, Paula tries to use Rebecca's bathroom, only to have the building's construction rubble fall in on her. Rebecca offers to text Scott about the mishap — and realizes Paula's been texting Sunil about what a bad time she's having at Rebecca's party. She tells Paula that she's been trying to make Paula feel more included; Paula tells Rebecca that she doesn't listen to her.

Paula reminds Rebecca that she hasn't been the most supportive lately, using the recommendation letter as an example. She also tells Rebecca about her abortion. However, their fight isn't resolved and it will likely play a role in next week's midseason finale.

Meanwhile, Josh (Vincent Rodriguez III), White Josh (David Hull), and Hector (Erick Lopez) are on a mission to have a guys' night — but to their chagrin, Home Base has started implementing hefty cover charges. But Trent (Paul Welsh) quickly offers to pay the fee, since infiltrating their friend group is the first part of his 42-step plan to win Rebecca's heart. White Josh and Hector find Trent creepy; his behaviors aren't unlike Rebecca's when she first moved to West Covina. (We're even treated to a reprise of the "Sexy Getting Ready Song," performed by Trent.)

Eventually, Trent goes to Rebecca's house (and he's the one who rescues Paula from the bathroom situation). He professes his love for Rebecca, which she rebuffs, though she does sleep with him at the end of the episode.

Of course, there's one more person who's not involved with either of the first two plots: Darryl (Pete Gardner). Maya (Esther Povitsky) confronts him about the fact that he's bullying her. He apologizes, saying her overeager attitude reminds him of his own worst qualities. I was skeptical when I read that the two of them would have a plot in this episode, but it was a moving scene. Plus, their plot about infiltrating Rebecca's party led to this incredible dance:

Across all three of tonight's storylines, there's a common theme: Everyone wants to have friends and to feel included. Being left out or feeling like you don't fit in with a certain group sucks, no matter how old you are. It's safe to say that Rebecca definitely has friends — even if right now, Paula might not count herself among them.

John Legend & Chrissy Teigen Are Adorable, Fail At Charades

Image may be NSFW.

It's impossible to play charades and not look silly. It's nice to know John Legend and Chrissy Teigen are not exceptions to that rule. On Friday, the couple, along with Chelsea Handler and Jimmy Fallon, attempted to enact classic songs and movies on The Tonight Show. They failed epically and entertainingly.

First, Teigen made a valiant effort shaking her stuff to enact the old rock-and-roll song "Shake, Rattle, and Roll." Legend got it almost instantly and Teigen had to re-tuck her shirt after the sheer force of her shaking displaced it.

Then, Handler correctly identified Fallon's tiger imitation to get "Eye of the Tiger." It was downhill from there, though.

We were excited to see Legend get The Little Mermaid and attempt to capture it with his own little dance...until Teigen intervened to correct his unzipped fly. Better leave mermaid-ing to Luna, who is already expert-level.

After Handler mimicked "Singing in the Rain," Fallon got as close as "rain song" and then veered off to guess "Purple Rain" and several songs that don't even exist.

For the final movie, Teigen and Fallon do a group dance routine of sorts, which you can watch, below, and it may be the best part of the game.

On a more serious note, Legend talked to Fallon about Luna, who is 8 months old and preparing for her first Christmas. Raising her, Legend said, is "really fun and it's humbling at the same time, because you realize you don't know anything." D'aww. We cannot wait to hear the song he's written about her.

What Even Is Sleeping Beauty Syndrome?

Image may be NSFW.

A version of this article originally appeared on Shape.

Earlier this week, the Daily Mail reported on the life story of Beth Goodier, a 22-year-old woman with Kleine-Levin Syndrome (KLS), or, as it's known more commonly, Sleeping Beauty syndrome. She was diagnosed five years ago, when she went to sleep in November and didn't wake up until six months had passed. Excessive sleep is the primary symptom of the syndrome, but there's a little more to it than that.

Related: Asking For A Friend: Is Snoring Really So Bad?

For one thing, those who suffer from KLS don't get much of a say as to when or where they fall asleep before entering into an episode (the term for an extended period of sleep). "The need for sleep is so strong that they can be found sleeping in unusual places, such as the hallway outside a classroom or on the sidewalk," Josna Adusumilli, MD, a neurologist and sleep disorders physician, told Shape. They may get up to use the bathroom or to eat something, but it's very difficult to wake them completely.

Dr. Adusumilli added that the syndrome can cause people to "be irritable, aggressive, and confused" once they awake. Child-like behavior, extreme food cravings, and hyper-sexuality have been seen in patients, too.

Related: How To Fall Back To Sleep When You Wake Up at 2 A.M.

Other than its major symptoms, KLS remains largely a mystery. "We don't know the origins of KLS, and the treatment is basically symptomatic," sleep research expert Thomas Roth, PhD, explained. In other words, no one knows the exact cause of KLS, so the only way to treat it, at the moment, is to address its symptoms. For example, Dr. Roth said it sometimes helps to give patients stimulants to keep them awake during the daytime.

On the bright side, this syndrome remains extremely rare, Dr. Roth told Shape. And, even when it does occur, it isn't permanent: It's most often seen in adolescents (though cases have been seen in younger children and adults) and symptoms generally dissipate after eight to 12 years. And again, it's rare. Though it certainly isn't the stuff of fairy tales, you probably don't have to worry about Sleeping Beauty Syndrome.

That Time Jennifer Lawrence Took Down A Massive Boulder By Scratching Her Bum

Image may be NSFW.

To spread the word about their new movie, Passengers, Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt have been touring the world and engaging in all sorts of antics along with way. But they may have reached peak silliness on The Graham Norton Show, where Lawrence recounted one of her less-proud moments in life.

While filming The Hunger Games in Hawaii, she destroyed the sound guy's equipment and nearly killed him, she confessed.

Why would she do this? Because her butt was itchy.

The rocks she was standing on were considered holy, she explained. "You're not supposed to sit on them, because you're not supposed to expose your genitalia to them." And she didn't, exactly. But they did come into contact with her wetsuit.

"They were so good for butt-itching," she defended herself, graphically illustrating exactly how she accomplished that. "One rock that I was butt-scratching on ended up coming loose, and there was a giant boulder, and it rolled down this mountain."

It sounds like she got let off the hook, though. "All the Hawaiians were like, 'OMG it's the curse!'" she remembered. "And I was sitting in the corner like, 'I'm your curse. I wedged it loose with my ass.'"

We also learned from the episode that, unsurprisingly, J Lawr was honored with the title of Most Talkative in her high school yearbook, while Pratt was Class Clown.

Living up to that role, he performed a card trick. "It's been a while, so if I screw this up you'll cut it out," he prefaced it, saying it "only works half the time." And it turned out, the disclaimer was necessary.

Will.i.am was his first guinea pig. Pratt failed to guess his card eight times. He redeemed himself, though, by knocking every card but the ace of hearts out of his hand with a fist bump, eliciting a priceless facial expression from J Lawr.

Luckily, he didn't take down any boulders in the process.

These Lipstick Transformers Let You Customize All The Shades In Your Collection

Image may be NSFW.

Finding the perfect lipstick is a challenge, so we often settle for the next best thing. A great red that could be just a tiny bit sheerer. A peach that would be more flattering in the winter if it was a hint darker. A pink gloss that would look even cooler with the shine dialed up. (Real #firstworldproblems, but you feel us, right?)

So when the concept of lipstick transformers hit the market a few months back, we were intrigued— but, admittedly, a bit skeptical. Toppers that can change the depth and finish of any shade? Too good to be true. Naturally, we had to put them to the test and share our unfiltered opinions, ahead.

Smashbox's Lipstick Transformer is Instagram-famous: Just about every beauty blogger we follow made a video swatching this cool mattifying gel when it launched a few months ago.

After tapping a lentil-sized dollop over a cream-finish lipstick, we were shocked when it mattified instantly. The texture, however, leaves something to be desired: It's thick, gel-like, and heavy on our lips.

Make's lipstick mattifier comes in pencil form for easy application — major points — and delivered on its claims to erase shine from our lipsticks while feeling weightless. Bonus: It works nicely as a lip primer, too.

The key to using these shade transformers (created solely to be mixed with your existing products) is to dab them over your lipstick, rather than slicking 'em on, so you can blend and add color as needed. This one, Turn Down, can be blended in to any color to deepen and darken it. The only downside? It's a pretty pigmented black lipstick on its own, so it's a little too easy to go overboard.

The Estée Edit Lip Flip Shade Transformer in Turn Down, $22, available at Sephora.

The yellow shade, Turn Up, is meant to lighten and brighten your existing lipsticks and it works like magic (though, if you aren't into yellow undertones, you might want to stay away). We layered it on top NARS Mona and created a custom brick shade that was so gorgeous.

Surratt's glosses work similarly to Estée Lauder's shade-shifters, but because of their sheer consistency, the effect is much more subdued.

When layered on top of lipstick, this Lip Lustre deepens color only slightly, taking it into plum territory. Alternatively, you can use it to give your lipstick a glossy finish, rather than a matte one.

Surratt's white Lip Lustre does the opposite of the black shade — it sheers out lipsticks to make them paler. We love using it with the colors we previously reserved only for nighttime because they were so intense.
